2023 Shanghai International Makers Innovation Competition Handbook
lIntroduction
The Shanghai International Makers Innovation Competition (Shanghai Makers) is a global maker competition which aims to build a platform for seeking high-quality startups and maker teams worldwide, facilitating entrepreneurs to grow and expand their businesses in Shanghai with professional technical and resource supports.
Since its first launch in 2016, The Shanghai International Makers Innovation Competition has been successfully held for seven years. The 2023 Shanghai International Makers Innovation Competition will be held from August to November 2023 with theme of "Meeting makers today, Embrace partnership tomorrow".There are 20 awards for the startup winners with a total amount of CNY of 200,000 RMB for cash awards, large-enterprise resource and other exclusive incubation support.
lCompetition Agenda
The Shanghai International Makers Innovation Competition (Shanghai Makers) is mainly divided into four stages: Registration and Online Assessment, Preliminary Round, Semifinal and Final. The agenda of Competition is arranged as follows:
Registration Stage:August 20, 2023, to September 20, 2023
Preliminary Round: September 20, 2023 to the early of October, 2023
Semifinal Stage: Mid-October 2023
Final Stage and Award Ceremony: November, 2023
lEligibility:
The competition is mainly open to maker teams or startup companies as following :
(1)Maker teams: Outstanding maker teams that have not yet registered as companies in Shanghai, China;
(2)Startup Companies in Shanghai: companies registered out of Shanghai after January 1, 2022; or companies registered in Shanghai before January 1, 2022, but have not participated in the “Startup in Shanghai” International Innovation & Entrepreneurship Competition.
lSpecific Arrangements of the Competition
1、Registration and online Assessment
(1)Registration Time:
The registration time for the competition is from August 20, 2023 to September 20, 2023 23:59 (UTC+8)
(2)Registration Channels:
The team must be registered on the official website of the competition
(3)For wechat users the team can registered through offical wechat account as “shanghai makers” (in Chinese: 上海国际创客大赛, ID: SHCC-Coway)
(4)Tracks
The Competition is focused on four tracks: healthcare & life science, Artificial Intelligence/Digitalization, Green Low Carbon, and Comprehensive Innovation. Each project can choose only one track.
(5)Basic Entry Conditions:
--The participating projects should comply with the relevant provisions of the current laws and regulations, industrial policies or planning ofChina, and have independent intellectual property rights (without disputes) or key technologies related to products and technologieswith certain innovative and commercial potential.
--Each participant or all members of the participating team must have no record of major dishonesty, no criminal record, and abide by the laws of the People's Republic of China.
2、Preliminary Round:
The competition will be open for outstanding teams worldwide. After finalizing the number of valid project registrations through basic data verification and phone confirmation, the competition organizing committee will invite expert judges to conduct centralized evaluation and scoring of the registration materials, selecting 80 projects for the semi-finals.
3、Semi-finals
The semi-finals will be held in Beijing, Shanghai, and online roadshows for overseas teams with industry-specific track competitions of healthcare & life science, Artificial Intelligence, Green Low Carbon, and comprehensive innovation. From the 80 projects, 20 projects in the end will be selected to advance to the finals.
4、Finals and Award ceremony
All of 20 semi-final winner teams will be invited to Shanghai in the final stage. All of them will attend a series of activities including the International Maker Acceleration Camp, Final Roadshow, International Maker Forum, and Award Ceremony.
lAward setting
All projects entering the finals will receive awards and other benefits.
1、Award quota:
²First Prize: 1 winner, 50,000 RMB
²Second Prize: 3 winners, 20,000 RMB each
²Third Prize: 8 winners, 8,000 RMB each
²Honorable Mention: 8 winners, 3,000 RMB each
2、Soft Landing Bonus:
(1) For outstanding core members of teams outside of Shanghai area, the organizing committee of competition will invite them to attend the final activities covering travel expenses.
(2)For projects with intention and practical landing requirements, the organizing committee of competition will assist with application for relevant policy, funding and other resource support.
2、Supporting Services for maker team winners:
(1)Office space: for projects entering the finals and willing to register companies in Shanghai, the organizing committee of competition will assist to get free office space.
(2)Resource matchmaking: for projects entering the finals, the organizing committee of competition will match the teams with related industry giants. Through one-on-one meetings, the teams can get direct and specific support, such as cases of proof of concept (POC) from those large corporations.
(3)Research funding: for projects entering the finals and willing register companies in Shanghai, the organizing committee of competition will assist to get research funding, such as technological innovation vouchers of Shanghai along with a quota of not exceeding 300,000RMB.
(4)Incubation service:
Projects entering the finals will receive entrepreneurship incubation support. the organizing committee of competition will offer professional incubation service including industry matchmaking meetings, financial advisers(FA), training and acceleration services.
4、Talent Scout Award
The Talent Scout Award is set up to individual or entity who recommend outstanding projects entering the finals with a total amount of 2,000 RMB. (One can only receive once in case of multiple recommended finalist projects).
lAward distribution
1.Distribution of Awards for Maker Teams
The Organizing Committee of the Competition willconduct online/offline verification of the participating projects and persons' qualifications, authenticity of information, relevant intellectual property information, and electronic proof materials. If the verification is successful, the Committee will grant the award.
2. Distribution of Awards for Startup Companies
The Organizing Committee of the Competition will conduct on-site verification of office, assess the company's actual operational status, verify the authenticity of the registered participation information. If the on-site verification is successful, the Committee will grant the award.
lSpecial Notice
1、The Organizing Committee of the Competition will not charge any fees from the participants. The Competition Organizing Committee will provide free consultation, coaching, training and other services for the participants during the registration and competition. Please pay attention to the relevant information on the official website or official account of the Competition.

2、The information and materials filled in and submitted by the participants during the competition will be open to the competition organizing committee, judging experts, and related organizations or individuals needed.
3、If the Competition cannot be held as scheduled due to force majeure, the Organizing Committee of the Competition has the right to adjust the competition schedule and form.
5、The Organizing Committee of the Competition has the final right to interpret the relevant rules of the Competition.
